It is not often that an opportunity to join a cutting edge technology company appears to us in a lifetime and I have done it twice now - I consider myself very lucky.

Firstly, the team at Datrium formed part of the founding teams for Data Domain and VMware. Data Domain revolutionized the enterprise storage industry by introducing deduplication technology, and VMware does not need introductions. Diane Greene and Mendel Rosenblum, VMware founders, are early funders at Datrium, and some of the top Valley VCs like Lightspeed and NEA (Nutanix, Riverbed, Nest, Uber, Workday, etc…) are also investors.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have had a varied & wide ranging career in IT from roles in Consulting, IT Management, R&D and most recently in Alliances at Nutanix. Diversifying into a new role can be seriously challenging from a learning and comfort perspective…. Let’s face it, we all have a comfort factor depth of specialized knowledge we attain in a field of expertise and it’s comfortable and natural to work within this.

In March of 1996 myself and two friends left the land of Brazil, en-route to an adventure that would change our lives forever. As teenagers, my buddies and I had spent the previous year planning an intrepid ‘roughcut’ journey, destination Middle East. All plans were well organised and set. Fate took a hand however and a last minute change resulted in the three of us arriving in Australia. With little planning, we were armed with backpacks and about $1,000 cash in our pockets. We wondered if it would be enough for our one year adventure the had been dreaming of for so long?

I’m happy to announce the next step in my professional career as I start a new and exciting chapter. Starting next week I will be joining the start-up Nutanix as their Technical Alliances Director.

I’ve enjoyed over 4 years with the EMC/VMware family in different roles. My most recent as a View Architect in the VMware End-User Computing CTO Office. In all roles I had the opportunity to work with great leaders and amazing innovative and talented engineers.

For me this has been a year of many changes, challenges and opportunities. Last April I not only accepted an offer to join EMC but I also relocated with my family from Australia to USA.

EMC has been a great source of learning. I get to talk to customers, partners and spend time in the lab sharpening and brushing my IT skills. EMC let me to be part of interesting and challenging projects. I went to VMworld. I had a chance to speak at VMUGs and conferences, including a keynote at the Brazilian VMware forum.

VCAP4-DCD and VCP5 in 7 days

About a month ago I sat the VCP5 Beta exam and after 7 weeks I finally received the news that I passed. Taking Beta exams is harder than regular exams in my opinion. The Beta exam had about 100 questions, many with wrong answers and/or multiple correct answers – and you need to comment them.
