No support for ThinPrint and persona on Server 2008 R2?! Come on, can't VMware do better than that. We've already been running linked clone Windows Server desktops since View 5.1 beta on, so there hasn't been much improvement for us.
I am constantly frustrated with the lack of Horizon View features for service providers: no rebranding, localization on end point clients available for only a small number of languages, terrible API (you have to resort to badly written and slow PowerCLI cmdlets which haven't changed from the first release or reverse-engineer the LDAP database), no real multi-tenant support etc.
I have a feeling that VMware doesn't care much about DaaS service providers. I guess we just have to wait and see what happens with the Desktone acquisition.

Hi Mitja.
View have not really been designed for DaaS or service providers but I know there are a few that does that. Desktone however is for just that, you will see more about this shortly.

Mitja, most of the unsupported features are unsupported due to lack of QE cycles to completely test them in all possible scenarios. In saying that, many of them will work (unsupported). Specifically talking about ThinPrint, it's a licensing issue. VMware has licensed Cortado ThinPrint for desktop OS only. Should you want to use ThinPrint with Server OS you should contact Cortado to acquire the Server OS version of ThinPrint. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future version of View.

Andre, got it. Well, at least the server is supported now. And I think persona should work. Looking forward to installing. Can't wait for View 6. :)

It says in the release notes that only active directory 2003 and 2008 are supported. Does that mean the domain functional level? That's a bit odd. 2008 is a very old?! And what does the domain level have to do with the lds database? Don't see why this should be a problem. There are no problems with View running in 2012 domain based on our experience.

I would like to know if it also supports Active Directory 2003 R2? Thank you so much!
Andre Leibovici
Aie, yes id does support Active Directory 2003 R2 domains.

Hi Andre!
I would like to ask something.
May I know how can I do these? “Run a query against OU=Servers, DC=vdi, DC=vmware, DC=int with this string:
(&(objectClass=pae-VM)(pae-displayname=))”
I am really having a hard time doing that because I cannot find the pae-MOID being stated there on the filter options under OU-Server , here’s the link for an Idea of what I’m doing.

Thank you so much! and looking forward for your prompt response!

Hi Andre,
Can you point me in the right direction on something.
View Persona Management for Server 2008 R2. You don't get an install option when deploying the View Agent.
Is there a workaround for this?
I appreciate it is unsupported at this time, will there be support in the future for this?
