View Storage Accelerator in VMware View 5.1 [WhitePaper]

VMware Staff engineer Sivaprasad Govindankutty has produced a very detailed technical white paper that provides a thorough understanding of how the content-based read cache (CBRC)
functions with vSphere 5.0, and how it is integrated in VMware View 5.1. It will also provide a detailed  explanation of configuring View Storage Accelerator (also known as Host Caching) for View desktops.

Sivaprasad goes into details about CBRC design covering topics like the VSCSI Filter implementation, Digest files, Journaling and CBRC parameters. The paper is a MUSR READ.

The paper is available at ttp://

    Hi Andre

    I was wondering is there any recommendation regarding how many pools Host Caching will support? When does the 2 GB become too small amount?

  1. @Eero
    The 2GB number resonates with all performance tests carried across a host. Doesn’t matter how many desktops. In regards to replicas I have never seen a number for that. However, most windows images carry the same content with exception to few applications. Even blocks from different replicas that have the same content will be collapsed and served from RAM.

    @Andre Leibovici

    Thanks for the reply. I will enable it for 5 pools now instead of 2 currently.
