VDI Calculator v6.0 is Now Available w/ VDI Infra Calculation and NX-1050

Today I am announcing the general availability of the new VDI Calculator v6.0. This new version introduces important new features for end-to-end calculations and security.

  • Horizon View and XenDesktop Infrastructure Calculation – previously the calculator provided the number of View Connection and Security servers, or XenDesktop Controllers, but those were not included in the overall infrastructure requirements calculation. With the move to converged architectures we are starting to commonly place VDI brokering components in the same infrastructure as virtual desktops. When option ‘Backend Infrastructure‘ is selected the calculator will include resources (cpu, memory and storage) in the overall infrastructure results.

  • Java Code Signing – the calculator is now signed using a trusted root certification authority. In the past the calculator used a self-signed certificate. The Java platform enables signing and verification by using special numbers called public and private keys. Signing code with a trusted certificate provides a better user experience and more information to help prevent against attackers.

  • Write Cache Sizing – now sizing for Horizon View Linked Clones or XenDesktop MCS the size of the delta/cache is explicitly called on the screen. This makes easier to size if you have a specific number in mind.
  • Nutanix NX-1050 Support – added support for Nutanix NX-1050 calculations in addition to 3050, 3060 and 7000. NX-1050 is a great fit for smaller VDI deployments, specially remote and back offices.
  • Squashed few little bugs

Important Note

  • There is a known issue when loading a saved calculation with more than 1 desktop type. In this case you must first open the amount of Desktop Tabs you want to load from the saved file. You do that clicking on (+) and (-).
