I previously provided an overview of the new Microsoft System Center integration with Nutanix via SCOM and SCVMM (here). Nutanix 4.1 offers a single pane of glass management for Microsoft datacenter environments with full support for the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S). The integration into the Microsoft stack is deep and the first piece I want to talk about is the Operations Manager Management Pack.
Operations Manager provides infrastructure monitoring for Microsoft datacenters and help ensure predictable performance and availability of vital applications, offering monitoring for datacenter and cloud, both private and public. The Nutanix SCOM management pack implementation is based on SNMP V3, ipmiutil and REST protocols and allow for management and monitoring of multiple clusters across datacenters, on private or public clouds powered by Nutanix technology. That also includes the Nutanix and Dell OEM models.
The SCOM Management Pack offer administrators the ability to visualize:
- Key system health Alert indicators
- Key performance graphs for latency, IOPS, etc.
- System health objects (CVM, Pool, Containers, Disks, Fans, Power Supply, etc.)
- Objects health-explorer
- Knowledge Base
- Custom creation of dashboards to monitor multiple Nutanix clusters.

There is a lot of tech coolness cooking up in Nutanix engineering at an amazing fast pace. Expect much more innovation from Nutanix in the short-term. For my next blog I will be publishing a video with the SCVMM and SMI-S integrations. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the excellent work done by Tim Isaacs in recording this video demo.
