Nutanix Foundation Demo Video (bare-metal to production in minutes)

The Nutanix Foundation is a tool that allow administrators to completely bootstrap, deploy and configure a bare-metal Nutanix cluster from start-to-end with minimal interaction in matter of minutes. Foundation will request few general parameters about network and in most cases even detect the Nutanix nodes using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS), also known as BonJour.

The tool then will request the ISO for Nutanix NOS (Phoenix) and the ISO for your preferred hypervisor. After clicking ‘Image Nodes’ the administrator only has to drink his/her coffee.

Foundation will automatically configure IPMI, deploy and configure hypervisors, deploy and configure Nutanix Controller VMs and finally create a cluster with selected nodes. The only task left to the administrator is to create a storage pool and add nodes to vCenter or SCVMM, if required. If you didn’t understand yet – we have servers, hypervisors and storage fully configured extremely fast, with few clicks and ready-for-use.

As I had to re-image and old Nutanix cluster in my lab I decided to record the deployment because there’s nothing like watching a real-life demonstration.

Andre, how long does the process take? I’m using the bare metal way today, since it wouldn’t discover my nodes automatically. I’m doing 8 nodes at the same time, but it takes a very long time. It’s been ongoing for 45 minutes now and at ESX Installed for the last 15…

  1. It takes approximately 30-40 minutes depending on the Nutanix model. How long did it take? How was your Foundation connected to the network? I recommend always have it connected to your core 10Gb switch.
