Last Friday I had the opportunity to present a Virtualization101 seminar at the Oracle and MySQL Sydney User Group, Australia. Firstly I have to thank Pythian for the invite and say that it was a pleasure to talk to such amazing group of people.
However, when I was invited I thought it would be a trap – explain virtualization to Oracle DBAs?! I was pleasantly surprised with the high level of interest on virtualization from the database professionals that were there. Even a Oracle representative was there to watch the session.
It seems to that virtualization adoption amongst database professionals is really skyrocketing as database professionals acquire more knowledge of how it works. VMware and other vendors have been doing a good job creating white papers, performance tests and architecture reference documents.
