1177 Ask the Expert Storage Kingpins – VMWorld Vote

Rick Scherer kindly submitted a Ask the Experts session for VMworld 2014. If approved, this will be the 7th time that Ask the Experts is part of the VMworld agenda. This time Ask the Experts is back with an awesome panel of the industry’s top storage vendors. In Rick’s own words, “In this session there are no powerpoints, no sales pitches and no rules!”.

“For those of you that haven’t attended one of my Ask the Experts sessions here’s what you can expect… A packed audience, a panel of some of the best industry experts out there and a forum for you to ask the questions you need answers to. These industry titans have lived, breathed and defeated some of the most complex designs and problems. vSphere? vCloud Automation Center? vCenter Operations? Horizon View? Bring it on!”

DAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, JBOD….Object? Where does it fit, which solution should I use? Does Compression and Deduplication matter? What’s is hyper-convergence and web-scale technologies?

Experts in the industry are here to answer YOUR questions while having some fun in the process. Bring your topic, anything from Software-Defined Data Center, to End-User Computing to 3rd Platform Applications… Storage, Networking, Security. No question is off-limits.

1177 Ask the Expert Storage Kingpins
Advanced Technical Session

Speakers:
Rick Scherer, Principal SE, EMC Corporation
Andre Leibovici, Technical Alliances Director, Nutanix
Vaughn Stewart, Chief Technology Evangelist, Pure Storage
Chad Sakac, SVP SE, EMC

In addition to the Ask the Experts I also have submitted a session that was very successful at Citrix Synergy and relate to how VDI can make use of hyper-converged and web-scale technologies.

2751 The Role of Hyper-Convergence and Web-Scale in the Future of VDI
Technical Session

Storage fabrics have historically been the Achilles heels of virtual desktop infrastructures due to its low performance, complex implementation and excessive Total Cost Ownership. A number of different technologies and approaches have been implemented in the past with marginal successes.

Hyper-Convergence is a radical paradigm shift that empowers enterprises of any size to employ the same datacenter transformations that allowed companies like Google, Facebook and Ebay to achieve high performance and massive scales utilizing an efficient solution that can easily adapt to today’s dynamic business environment.

The software defined datacenter, convergence and web-scale technologies are entering mainstream enterprises allowing them to benefit from the same efficiencies large cloud providers have develop over the past 10 years. Come into this session to learn how these technologies listed in Gartner’s Top 10 Tech Trends will shape the face of how VDI is deployed.

In this session we will discuss in a ‘vendor agnostic’ fashion the benefits of hyper-convergence and software-defined-storage for VMware Horizon View.
